MCC and the Environment
The Mayo Civic Center currently employs a number of energy saving and environmentally friendly practices, including the use of renewable energy from Olmsted County’s waste-to-energy plant, an energy management system, and over $1 million in investments in energy saving improvements in recent years.
The Mayo Civic Center’s commitment to environmental stewardship and energy conservation will be evident in the new expansion through the use of:
- Minnesota’s B3 Sustainability standards, which are 30% better than the State Energy Code
- Solar shading
- Natural daylighting
- Water efficient landscaping
- Construction waste management
- Alternative transportation accessibility including city trails, transit, and pedestrian walkways
