Economic Impact
In 2008, Mayo Civic Center events generated $113 million in economic impact for the Rochester region. Expanding the Mayo Civic Center will create jobs, bring new visitors to Rochester and Minnesota, and position the region as a place that is serious about doing business in the emerging medical, bio-tech, high-tech, and green economy fields. Here are the economic impacts by the numbers:
- $44 million in annual additional economic impact
- 400 construction jobs over the next 3 years accounting for over 1 million hours of work for the construction trades
- 800 permanent jobs throughout Rochester’s economy
- $1.5 million in additional sales tax per year for the state of Minnesota, one-third of which is attributable to new out-of-state visitors
- $1.4 million in additional income tax per year for the state of Minnesota, one-third of which is attributable to new out-of-state sources
